Rangiora Hockey Club completed the 2016 winter season with its senior and junior prize givings last weekend.

Coaches and Managers from the club’s 22 teams selected their Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player over the whole season, who were presented with trophies – some dating back to the 1960s.

As well as the team awards Club Secretary Catherine Hannah received the Sharon Batchelor Trophy for Club Person of the Year. Long serving immediate Past-President Sharon Batchelor was honoured with Life Membership to the Rangiora Hockey Club, presented to her by Mayor David Ayers.

Prior to the senior prize giving club members and invited guests, which included Waimakariri District Mayor David Ayers and Councillors Wendy Doody and Robbie Brine, were given a tour of the half-completed full sized hockey turf on Coldstream Rd by project manager Cody Linton of Polytan.

Cody was also guest speaker at the awards where he talked about his experiences with the development of the hockey turfs for the Rio Olympics.
