The Big Splash is returning to Rangiora next week.
The annual winter event, which will be held on the Waimakariri District Council lawn on Rangiora’s High Street from 1pm on Saturday, July 29, is a fundraiser for the Rangiora Stroke Club.
The Big Splash is being held in conjunction with the Rangiora Winter Festival to capitalise on one of Rangiora’s busiest weekends and is set to be the biggest Big Splash yet, Rangiora Promotions co-ordinator Belinda Topp says.
“For 2017, the event has received the highest number of participants to ‘take the plunge’ into a pool of extremely cold water in already extremely cold temperatures that winter provides.
“We have 27 participants who have been out and about in the community seeking sponsorship to ‘take the plunge’.”
Belinda says participants are encouraged to dress up with this year’s theme being ‘winter’ to tie in with the Winter Festival.
There will be a prize for the best dressed and prizes for the top three ‘splash for cash champions’, which will be donated to the participants’ chosen charities. Jumpers need to raise $100 to ensure they take the plunge.
North Canterbury News journalist David Hill is participating in The Big Splash for the third year in a row.
You can sponsor David to ensure he ‘takes the plunge’ into the pool of cold water by calling in at the North Canterbury News’ Rangiora office or make a donation into the Rangiora Promotions bank account: 02 0876 0045094 00 – please use ‘Big Splash’ as a reference and ‘David H’ as a code. The event kicks off at 1pm and there will be a sausage sizzle run by the local Leos Club and coffee available onsite from 11am, with Silly Milly and Smiley the Clowns entertaining from 12.30pm.
