Some of the Waimakariri district’s young actors were on stage last week.
The Hartley School of Performing Arts’ annual theatresports competition night was held last week, with local talent on display.
Prizes were awarded for the top intermediate and senior teams, along with a “player of the night” prize.
The winning intermediate team was Popocatepetl, comprising Meg Kirwan, Braydn Siegenthaler, Vaea Syddall and Ricco Pepper-Edwards.
The winning senior team, called Who Invited Them?, brought together the talents of Felix Horwarth, Iona Main, Campbell Richardson and Hannah Thompson. Felix was named player of the night.
The event is in its 15th year.
The evening involves teams of four actors presenting a scenes made up on the spot.
Teams must work together, accepting each other’s ideas, no matter how bizarre, to build an entertaining scene around an idea suggested by the audience. Each scene has a series of fun rules, making for some funny moments.
School director Dale Hartley-Brown said nine teams made it to competition night after spending the term building up their skills in drama classes.
