Close to 200 riders, and their horses, took part on each day of the Rangiora Pony Club’s annual One Day Event competition last weekend.
The event was held during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, over two days, on Sunday June 5 and Monday June 6, at the Rangiora A&P showgrounds, the club’s headquarters.
It is the club’s main fundraiser for the year and they were thrilled with the support they received for the event from competitors, sponsors and the community. One Day Event competition involves three categories: dressage, showjumping and cross country, completed on one day.
One of the organisers, Blue Clark, from Waipara, who was a technical delegate on Monday and a cross-country judge on Sunday, said they were very pleased with the event. ‘‘It was well supported, we had great weather and we had a lot of good riding.’’
The event was one of the qualifier One Day Events in preparation for the prestigious Springston Trophy in October which intensified the competition, he said.
Although there were a couple of falls during Sunday’s competition, this was not unusual during cross-country events, another one of the organisers, Theresa Rosanowski, said. Neither of the riders, or their horses, were seriously injured.
