Two glass vases and a painting by Auckland artist Vjekoslav Nemesh have been stolen from the Sacred Light exhibition at the Art on the Quay Gallery in the Kaiapoi Library.

The $850 painting, Blossoming Time, was noticed missing last Monday morning, but is believed to have been stolen on Thursday last week.

The glass vases, valued at $250 and $150, were stolen the week before.

Gallery manager Jackie Watson says she is devastated by the thefts.

“Both events have been reported to the police and we are asking people to keep a look out for the stolen artwork. This is the first time anything has been taken in over 50 exhibitions since we opened.”

Security camera footage from the library area is being examined for clues.

Two new security cameras will now be installed in the gallery.

Vjekoslav said he was saddened the artwork had been stolen.

“It shows someone really loves my work. I just wish they had paid for it.”Running sport mediaSneakers
