The mayoralty race in the Waimakariri district is heating up, with two new nominations for the top job.
Michael Bate and Natalie Leary have put their names forward.
Mr Bate, who has spent his life in the district, says his vision is to see the district the healthiest place to live in New Zealand. He wants a much greater emphasis on the environment, waterways and wastewater treatment. He says a vote for him would be a vote for the environment and a commonsense, practical approach across all issues.
Ms Leary, from Kaiapoi, says she is passionate about local businesses, water issues, transportation, safer roads, traffic congestion, youth, rates and all other issues that make communities stronger and a better place to live.
In the Hurunui district two nominations have been received for the mayoralty, both sitting councillors. Julia McLean has joined Marie Black in the contest for the top job.
Meanwhile, one candidate has put up his hand for the mayoralty in Kaikoura – John Diver – a former Kaikoura councillor.
