Mayoral elections in all North Canterbury councils

There will be Mayoral elections in all three North Canterbury councils where all three sitting Mayors are retiring.

Eight candidates have put their hands up for their hand up for the Waimakariri Mayoralty while three are running for the top job in the Hurunui District Council.

Five are seeking the Kaikoura mayoralty, but there will be no election for councillors, with just seven being nominated for the seven vacancies.

There were 23 nominations for the 10 seats around the Waimakariri District Council table when nominations closed at noon on Friday, August 16.

In the Hurunui District there will be elections in all three wards, and for the Hanmer Springs Community Board.

Six candidates have been nominated for the two vacancies in the North Canterbury/Opukepuke constituency of Environment Canterbury

There Mayoral candidates are:

Waimakariri: Kirstyn Barnett, Michael Joseph Bate, Paul Williams, Natalie Michelle Leary (Independent), Robbie Brine, Dan Gordon, Oliver Sanderson, Jay Webb (Independent).

Hurunui: Maire Black, Peggy Burrow, Julia McLean.

Kaikoura: John Diver, Craig Mackle, Darlene Morgan, Sharon Rayner, Robert Roche.
