Information sought following spitting incident in Rangiora

Canterbury Police are seeking help to identify two young males in Rangiora, after one of them claiming to have Covid-19, spat on a police officer.

The incident happened near Church Street, Rangiora on Wednesday afternoon around 3.20pm.

As a result of the assault the officer will no longer be able to perform his duties within the community and will be in self-isolation for 14 days, away from his family.

The two males, aged around 14 years, were Caucasian and riding BMX bikes.  One of the males had long brown hair and was wearing grey clothing and a black cap.

The incident happened when the pair were being spoken to by police.

A police spokespersons says the behaviour is extremely concerning and dangerous, and police staff should not be targeted in such a way.
