More than 1000 cars roared into Kaikoura over the weekend to set the town buzzing, despite alert level 2 restrictions.
Kaikoura Hop organiser Doug O’Callahan was thrilled with the turnout, after a stressful build-up because of Covid-19.
“It was a good weekend. Under level 2 restrictions, we managed to pull off the impossible. It wasn’t a normal Hop, but bring it on next year. It’s going to rock.”
While the car show, rock’n roll dance party and Sunday burn-outs were cancelled, there was lots of cruising around town and about 250 cars cruised to Hanmer Springs on Saturday.
“It was a planned strategy with the Kaikoura District Council and the police to ease the pressure on the bars and cafes, because we knew they would struggle to cope with the numbers.”
