A fleeing driver drove through roadworks at high speed, damaged fences, private property and a golf course during an incident that began in North Canterbury and ended in an inner city suburb of Christchurch near Woolston.
Police are speaking to the driver of the vehicle who is assisting them with their inquiries.
The incident is believed to have begun when a quadbike was stolen from a rural property near Amberley. Later a green 4WD Nissan Patrol vehicle with an A-frame tow bar on the front was taken and seen being driven erratically towards Christchurch.
The man then drove through roadworks at high speed and damaged fences, private property and a golf course was also seen driving through a river.
Police are asking for sightings of this vehicle the on Thursday between 9am and 10am in the North Canterbury area.
