North Canterbury is to host the ‘‘Across the Ditch Tour” – a journey of music and story by two Australasian indie-folk darlings.
Mel Parson, a New Zealander well-known to audiences up and down the country and Liz Stringer, an Australian, who is returning fresh from a Canadian summer tour, will share songs from their back catalogues at the Balcairn Hall on October 13.
They will also perform a selection of southern hemisphere favourites that have helped shape them as artists.
Both performers have distinctive voices, a storytelling bent and a dry humour that will have the audience laughing and crying – not necessarily in that order.
Parsons, an awardwinning songwriter, tours fulltime, entertaining at international festivals through to woolsheds in North Canterbury’s own backyard. She now has three albums under her belt.
Stringer is a highly regarded songwriter and musician in her home country of Australia, who has also toured internationally with a host of artists and now counts Bonnie Rait in her evergrowing list of fans. She has just finished a year of touring to support the release of her fifth studio album, ‘‘All The Bridges’’ in July 2016.
Parsons and Stringer kick off their trans-Tasman run in Australia on September 2. They cross the ditch to perform throughout New Zealand before arriving in North Canterbury for their show at the Balcairn Hall. The tour finishes in Hororata on October 14.
